Should you be using Apple’s new video podcast feature?

Apple recently added support for video podcasts using HLS. Which naturally leads to the question:

Should you be using it?

The honest answer is - it depends.

Because while video can be a great addition to a podcast, it’s not automatically the right move for every show.

If your podcast is already video-first - or you’re recording interviews and publishing them on platforms like YouTube - then this is a fairly easy win.

You’re not creating something new.

You’re just making your content available in another place your audience might already be listening.

But if your podcast is audio-first, or you’re not currently recording video, that’s where it’s worth taking a step back.

Because adding video isn’t just a new feature to turn on.

It changes how you record, how you edit, your setup, and your overall workflow.

And if you’re doing it just because it’s new, there’s a good chance it adds more work than value.

So here’s a simple way to think about it:

  • Are you already creating video, or planning to?
  • Would your audience actually benefit from watching, instead of just listening?

If the answer’s yes, then it’s worth exploring.

If not, you’re probably better off focusing on making your audio as strong and engaging as possible, and then maybe revisit video, whether that's Apple, Youtube, or Spotify down the line.

Because new features come and go. But a clear, compelling podcast?

That’s what keeps people coming back.

Until the next time, happy podcasting.

Hi Reader, Somewhere along the way, podcasting stopped being a thing people did because they enjoyed it. Or at least, that’s what the internet would have you believe sometimes. Now everything has to be: scalable monetized optimized repurposed into 14 clips and a LinkedIn carousel turned into a “personal brand” And look, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting more from your podcast. Maybe you do want sponsorships. Maybe you want to grow an audience. Maybe you want your show to become...

Hi Reader, I nearly didn’t publish an episode this week. Everything was done. Recorded, edited, ready to go. But right at the end, that familiar thought crept in: “Do I actually know enough about this to be talking about it?” It’s a strange part of podcasting. You can do all the work, and still hesitate at the last step. And I think a lot of us deal with that, whether we call it imposter syndrome or not. For me, it usually shows up when I’m covering something that feels a bit more “advice-y”....

Hi Reader, So, a little back story (if you weren't following the podcast previously). I stopped One Minute Podcast Tips almost a year ago. Not because I ran out of ideas. Not because it wasn’t working. But because I needed a break. And honestly? That was the right call. Stepping away gave me some space to think about what I actually enjoy about podcasting, and what I don’t (and I highly recommend you taking stock like this yourself now and again for your own podcast). And one thing kept...
